S.S. Legacy
Overview

A perfect mash-up of old and new-replica 1898 coastal gold rush steamer, Victorian-style decor, and modern machinery. The elegant and one-of-a-kind S.S. Legacy is a classic and the fastest in the fleet. Capable of 15 knots, she can sail to the farthest reaches gathering more stories of adventure along the way. It's no wonder that for many of the crew (and office folk), she's a first love that never fades.

And wherever she sails, she announces her arrival with an antique whistle-a relic from UnCruise CEO Dan Blanchard's childhood tugboat (well, actually his father's tug). The Pesky Barnacle Saloon is a welcoming hub to every adventure-hearted soul who sidles up with a whisky and a tale. In 2018, she'll be equipped with kayaks, paddle boards, skiffs, and at the ready for more explorations. Like the crew and guests having the time of their lives, she hums with each new opportunity.

Onboard Features: Portable activity launch platform; kayaks, paddle boards, inflatable skiffs, hiking poles, snorkel gear/wetsuits; two hot tubs; fitness equipment, yoga mats; two massage rooms; elevator (access to three public decks); piano; DVD and book library

Cabin Features: TV/DVD player; air conditioning/heat; private bath with shower, bathrobes, hair dryer, conditioning shampoo, and body wash; binoculars; reusable water bottles; in-room safe deposit box

Culinary Sensations

Our Executive Chefs create exquisite meals, using locally sourced fresh ingredients to reflect the flavors of your destination. Each day includes an early-riser breakfast of fresh fruit, baked-onboard pastries and breads, and a full breakfast complete with specialty items. Lunches range from pasta salads and sandwiches to homemade soups and ethnic dishes. Dinners offer a choice of entrees, including fresh seafood and meats. Vegetarian dishes are available and special dietary needs can be met with advance notice. Hors d'oeuvres for the cocktail hour feature a variety of appetizers and desserts are varied and plentiful. Fine spirits, wines, and microbrews are served aboard all of our boats, with many even featuring sustainable cask wines on tap.

Aboard any of our Luxury or Heritage Adventures, unless we're having a barbeque on deck or some other special event, your meals are always served over several courses-with particular attention to your personal preferences. A more casual-style dining experience is offered on our Active Adventures, where exceptionally high quality fare is generally served buffet-style. All of our meals ensure fresh, healthful dining experiences.

Wellness, Fitness and Relaxation

Our onboard amenities allow you to escape through complimentary yoga classes, relaxing in on-deck hot tubs or saunas, enjoying a good workout on the fitness equipment, or being pampered by our Wellness Director/Massage Therapist. Nature's splendor takes care of the rest. And at the end of your voyage, our onboard team will send you off with a renewed sense of beauty and spirit.

A complimentary massage is an included amenity aboard the Safari Endeavour, Safari Explorer, and S.S. Legacy. Massage is available aboard all of our expedition vessels; however, there is an additional charge for the service. Depending on your Massage Therapist, your massage-style choices may include traditional massage, lomi lomi, shiatsu, or a comfortable chair massage. (Exception, the Safari Quest does not offer massage or sauna.)

Rejuvenate your body as well as your spirit.

Onboard Activities

Throughout your voyage you become familiar with the crew and staff who enrich your time aboard. Depending on where we are and what we're doing on any given day, there are provocative presentations on deck and in the salon or lounge that educate you on the environment, wildlife, history, and culture of the region. Local experts are often invited along as special guests to "talk story" and provide insights unavailable to most other visitors.

We have an open bridge policy across the fleet so you're always welcome to visit and discuss navigation with the Captain. Many of our boats are equipped with underwater hydrophones as well as cameras that connect to the TVs, bringing life in the water directly inside the boat! Each vessel also has a varied collection of board games, books, and DVDs.

Life onboard can be fairly social. With small groups of like-minded adventurers, who appreciate roads less traveled, there's a certain "bonding" that tends to occur. It's hard to describe, but it happens... during cocktail hour, over meals, and through new shared experiences.

Life On Board

Each vessel has a unique personality. But they all share a universal goal - to provide relaxation, comfort, and camaraderie. The ambience is welcoming and casual. The crew call you by name and quickly know your preferences, making you feel right at home. And by the end of the cruise, you and your fellow travelers will feel like one big family.

You'll be impressed with how enthusiastic and accommodating the crew is. There's good energy and excitement. The meals are plentiful and scrumptious. It's a classy, well-run operation. At least that's what past guests are saying. What they least-expected though, was the bonding. Sharing adventures with people who became friends for life, and meeting so many returning passengers.

Outer Decks & Inner Spaces

  • An inviting dining room
  • Main lounge or salon (with a variety of board games, books, and DVDs)
  • Observation decks for wildlife viewing and relaxing under the stars
  • Open bridge policy - visit with your captain and mates
  • And possibly, a galley tour (it's amazing what they do in this space)

Everyone has their preferences, be it solitude or a few laughs with others. And on board, it's easy to have both. There are quiet nooks and crannies where you can dive into a good book or sketch the passing landscapes. Visit the captain on the bridge and learn about navigation. Or perhaps you'd rather mingle in the lounge or hang out on the bow eyeing the next WOW! moment.

Wellness, Fitness & Relaxation

  • Relax in the on-deck hot tub*
  • Nutritious meals with local ingredients
  • Laps around the deck
  • Fitness equipment or on-deck yoga stretches
  • Active adventure gear for kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and hiking

*Available on some sailings.

Dining

Humpbacks lunge into a bubble net feeding frenzy the moment plates are served. An otter swims up to the dining room windows with her baby on her belly, getting everyone out of their seats (we've all done it). It's no easy feat to prepare and serve dishes that consistently garner praise. There are special needs to be met, varying availability of ingredients, and there's always potential for those unexpected dining guests.

Every meal is handcrafted by our executive chefs to ensure innovative, nutritious, and delectable dining experiences that highlight flavors of the region.

What to expect:

  • Early-riser breakfasts of fresh fruit and baked-on-board pastries
  • Full breakfasts with hot and cold options and specialty items
  • Lunches range from salads, sandwiches, and homemade soups to regionally-influenced dishes
  • Dinners offer a choice of entrees including fresh, local seafood and meats
  • Chef-selected wine pairings that complement your meal
  • Made-from-scratch desserts like tiramisu and lavender panna cotta
  • Varied hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour

  • Special dietary needs can be met with advance notice

Unless there's a special barbecue or lunch on shore, most dinners are served over several courses. Attention is always paid to your personal preferences. The dining experience is casual. And seating is open so you can join new friends and choose a different table at every meal.

Define Your Un-ness

Here's ours... [uhn-nis] To break away from the masses. Challenge. Freely used to release, exemplify, or intensify a force or quality. To engage, connect, and explore unique places, oneself, and with others on a most uncommon adventure.

Small Ships...BIG Adventures

A crew member shows you to your cabin. After a short time getting situated, gain your bearings with a spin around the ship before heading to the lounge for a glass of bubbly and to meet your shipmates. Once on board, transplanting yourself and settling in is a snap.

And then you're off! Headed to where the big ships can't go-in more ways than one. Be sure to pack a go-with-the-flow attitude. There are set itineraries, but in-the-moment decisions with Mother Nature leading the way will happen! No two UnCruise departures are ever the same, and they're way more personable.

No matter how you travel -with a companion, family, solo, or in a group -connection, place, and adventure are at the heart of your exploration. Uncover hidden treasures, meet locals (the human, feathered, and wild-and-woolly ones), and learn while having fun.
